Best track of 2012 part 2...

Gaggle
Week two of our best tracks of 2012 on The Other Woman on Amazing Radio, which appear in no particular order, and boy are we glad we’re doing another week of this next week. It’s been such a strong year for music from female artists and female fronted bands and this looks set to tip over into 2013 with the BBC’s Sound of 2013 list and our very own Tips for 2013 being dominated by women.

Lady Lykez live video - Not Your Hair

Lady Lykez
North London MC Lady Lykez is a super hot young talent and one to watch for 2013... from battling with Chipmunk in community halls around Crouch End to this... Not Your Hair began it’s life as a half joke in the studio with Lykez’s producer, quickly becoming catchy enough to be put down as a chorus and not long afterward, a crowd favourite.

Best tracks of 2012 part 1...

Sharon van Etten
It's been so hard to pin down the best tracks of the year, it's been an amazing year for women in music. I'll post the 'listen again' players as we go, there are two more shows to come - here's last Sunday's:

A stormer of a playlist featuring Sharon Van Etten (who’s easily my artist of the year), the show will also feature Mary Epworth, Smoke Fairies, Piney Gir, Nadine Shah, Emily Barker and more… have a listen for the full whammy and keep listening all month to make sure you’ve crossed off all the big hitters of 2012.

The Murder Barn in session and interview

The Murder Barn
Another highlight from November's live sessions on Amazing Radio Breakfast (see yesterday's highlight The Hall of Mirrors here - there will be more everyday this week)... was The Murder Barn. This band of gypsy's and ne'er do well's make dramatic 'epic' tunes that combine the dust and spurs of Cowboy country with the grey marshy flatland of Walthamstow in east London. It can be done! Hear them do it here, session tracks and find out more in their interview:

Sophie Jamieson - live session and interview

Sophie Jamieson
Another highlight from Amazing Radio in November came for a session for The Other Woman which goes out on Sunday evenings. Sophie Jamieson is a young folk singer songwriter who has a lyrical and musical sensibility that is well beyond her years. She's also keen to get back to playing her electric guitar which should be something to look out for if these two live tracks are anything to go by, can't wait till she plugs in!

Hall of Mirrors - live session and interview

The Hall of Mirrors
Yikes no posts in over a month! It's that time of year when frankly, shit gets crazy. On the Amazing Radio Breakfast Show however we've been packed full of live sessions and interviews with some fantastic women artists. In fact, our Tips for 2013 list features more Dames than Dudes. Check us out redressing the balance!

I'll be posting everyday this week with highlights from November, starting with The Hall of Mirrors - Jess Winter and her band are set for greatness and here Jess and her guitarist Simon play two tracks utterly stripped down.
